Leftist Media can say with strong conviction that “we are not” the 99%. We can say with even greater conviction that we are not the 1%. The “occupy protests” that are scorching the landscape of this great country have affirmed something we have known about ourselves since early childhood. Joe and I grew up in a small boomtown 35 miles outside of Chicago. We watched our parents toil and sacrifice for 50+ hours a week to provide a better life for their children. Life was often very hard and lessons were learned at an extremely fragile age, but somehow we went to bed each night knowing that things were right in the world. There were no handouts, no one complained about their lot in life, and you walked with your chin held high no matter the consequences. You respected your elders and you stuck up for your family and friends at all costs. There was a sense of community in our town that was palpable. The words “strong moral fiber, character and integrity” were titles of distiction, and we worked hard to earn our merit badges.
We are sovereign individuals. Our beliefs lie in the concept of self-ownership, a strong commitment to individual rights, a distrust of political democracy, a belief in the right to financial and personal privacy, and a willingness to think and act outside the box as it regards to being behoden to existing nation states. Leftist Media rises above being owned or of being subject to arbitrary external authorities. We aspire to live our lives in a fully autonomous fashion, and stand steadfast in the knowledge that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable Rights among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Like the old adage, hindsight is always 20/20. Looking back over the years, its readily apparent that our transformations were directly linked to our upbringing. Self-reliance and individual liberty creates a moral compass that once found, is impossible to ignore and enlightning to follow. One simply cannot be of moral character when dependent upon an oppressive regime that willfully steals one’s liberty and pits citizens against one another for a stake in the collective spoils. We envision a world in which entitled individuals are no longer recognized; rather, free of the shackles that have corrupted their self worth, their dignity and ultimately their soul.
